Blackford is a residential neighborhood in West San José, its name rooted in Blackford Avenue, the street that defined its identity before postwar suburban development reshaped the area. Blackford High School, which opened on Blackford Avenue in 1961 and operated until 1991 as part of the Campbell Union High School District, was the neighborhood's civic anchor through three decades of growth. At its peak enrollment the school served nearly 2,000 students, reflecting the density of families settling across West San José during the boom years of Silicon Valley's early formation. The former campus was later occupied by the Harker School, maintaining the site's educational character. The neighborhood is served by the Moreland School District, which has been a consistent point of community pride.
