Hollywood Park takes its name from Hollywood Avenue, a street developer John Lewis Cochran named after California's Hollywood while subdividing nearby Edgewater. Real estate developer Oliver Salinger later used that same street name for this distinctly Jewish enclave, developed in the 1920s and '30s right alongside the older, predominantly Swedish community of North Park, giving Chicago's Far North Side two adjacent neighborhoods with entirely different immigrant identities.

The Hollywood Park District formed in 1926 specifically to bring recreational space to the neighborhood, and improvements to its namesake park began in 1931 with a rocky-edged goldfish pond and cascading water feature, along with prairie-style landscaping mixed with plantings from China and Japan. The Chicago Park District absorbed the independent district in 1934, and Hollywood Park still anchors the neighborhood today alongside the Bryn Mawr Avenue business corridor.

MY-NHD's Hollywood Park collection is built for a neighborhood that borrowed its name from a California street sign and built its own distinct identity right next door to its Swedish neighbor.
