Irish Hill was a compact working-class neighborhood in San Francisco's Dogpatch district, situated on a serpentine outcropping between the Union Iron Works shipyard and San Francisco Bay, roughly bounded by Illinois Street, 20th Street, and 22nd Street. Established by the early 1860s, the neighborhood housed the Irish immigrant workers who labored in the heavy industries clustered on Potrero Point — including Tubbs Cordage, the first rope manufacturer west of the Mississippi, the Pacific Rolling Mills, the City Gas and Light Company, and the Union Iron Works, the first major industrial plant on the Pacific Coast, which relocated to the area in 1883. At its peak Irish Hill was a seven-square-block enclave of approximately sixty cottages and forty boarding houses and hotels, with a prodigious concentration of saloons — twenty-five alcohol-selling establishments among thirty-eight businesses in 1889. Political boss Frank McManus, known as the King of Irish Hill, ran the neighborhood's Union Hotel at its summit.

The hill was quarried in stages beginning in the 1880s to provide fill for the Long Bridge extension and for industrial expansion, and was largely leveled by 1918 when Bethlehem Shipbuilding took over the land for the war effort. Today only a small serpentine outcropping near 22nd and Illinois Streets survives. The Pier 70 development project adjacent to the site now incorporates signage and historical interpretation about Irish Hill's vanished community.
