Neighborhood History

The Morcom Rose Garden in the Dimond District — a 7-acre formal rose garden established in 1933 and maintained by the City of Oakland — is among the most visited public gardens in the East Bay, drawing visitors for its formal terraces, reflecting pool, and annual rose bloom. Laurel Elementary School — an Oakland Unified School District campus serving the neighborhood — has anchored the Laurel community's family character across generations of demographic change.
