Neighborhood History

Lincoln Park takes its name from the large public park renamed in honor of President Abraham Lincoln shortly after his assassination in 1865. The neighborhood developed during the late nineteenth century as Chicago expanded northward following the Great Chicago Fire. Streetcar lines, lakefront access, and residential subdivision were the primary forces behind its early growth.

Permanent landmarks include Lincoln Park itself and the Lincoln Park Conservatory, both enduring features of Chicago's lakefront landscape. The neighborhood also contains historic residential districts and civic spaces that reflect its transformation from a cemetery district and rural edge settlement into a major urban neighborhood.

Lincoln Park's history illustrates how public parks, transportation, and urban planning shaped Chicago's growth. MY-NHD apparel reflects that connection to place, recognizing a neighborhood whose identity remains closely tied to the lakefront park that gave it its name.
