Lincoln Park takes its name from the large public park renamed in honor of President Abraham Lincoln shortly after his assassination in 1865. The neighborhood developed during the late nineteenth century as Chicago expanded northward following the Great Chicago Fire. Streetcar lines, lakefront access, and residential subdivision were the primary forces behind its early growth.
