Neighborhood History

Parkway Forest is a North York neighbourhood bounded by Don Mills Road to the west, Sheppard Avenue East to the north, Highway 404 to the east and Highway 401 to the south, covering about 48.5 hectares. It was developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s as part of the larger George Henry Farms community, comprehensively planned with parkland, amenities and a mix of housing types. Most of its high-rise buildings went up between 1966 and 1972.

The plan followed a 'towers in the park' approach, setting twelve apartment buildings of 6 to 19 storeys, along with townhouses, among open space and mature trees. At its centre were a public park, an elementary school, a fire station, a commercial plaza and a recreation centre. Since the 2000s the neighbourhood has been re-urbanized: affordable housing at 121 Parkway Forest Drive was completed in 2006, construction of replacement rental towers began in 2009, and the plan added a public community centre. Don Mills station on Line 4 Sheppard serves the area. North York became part of the amalgamated City of Toronto in 1998.

The Parkway Forest tee is for the neighbours of the towers in the park, between Don Mills Road and the 404.
