Silver Creek Valley is a neighborhood of the Evergreen district in southeastern San José, taking its name from Silver Creek — a perennial stream fed by natural springs in the Diablo Range foothills above the valley. The valley was attractive to early settlers for those springs and the fertile hillside soils, and by the late nineteenth century it supported small farms and orchards on land that was part of the broader agricultural fringe of the Santa Clara Valley.

The Silver Creek Valley Country Club traces its roots in the area to 1934, when the valley's landscape began to attract leisure and sport alongside agriculture. The Silver Creek Open Space Preserve, which makes up a significant portion of the Silver Creek Hills bordering the neighborhood to the east, protects the oak woodland and chaparral habitat of the Diablo Range foothills that define the valley's eastern horizon. Residential development began in earnest in the late 1980s and continued through the 1990s and 2000s, when master-planned communities with hillside views and access to the open space were developed across the valley floor. Silver Creek High School, which opened in 1994, anchors the community's civic identity.
