West Valley is a residential district in the western reaches of San José, bordered by the cities of Santa Clara, Cupertino, Saratoga, and Campbell. The area takes its name from its position in the western portion of the Santa Clara Valley, and its development mirrors the broader transformation of the valley from agricultural land to suburban community. Like much of West San José, the neighborhood's ranch-style homes were built primarily in the 1950s and 1960s as the region's postwar population expanded rapidly — orchards and farms giving way to residential tracts as Silicon Valley's foundational growth began.

Westgate Center, one of the anchoring commercial developments of West San José, serves the West Valley community alongside a network of neighborhood parks and highly regarded schools in the Moreland and Campbell Union districts. Los Gatos Creek, which drains the Santa Cruz Mountains north through Campbell and into the Guadalupe River, runs along the western edge of the broader district, and the Los Gatos Creek Trail provides a continuous recreational corridor accessible from West Valley. The neighborhood's elevated sections near the border of Saratoga offer views across the Santa Clara Valley, the same landscape that generations of orchard farmers cultivated before Silicon Valley changed it forever.
